Que Bola? is sassy, spicy, lively latin jazz combined with afro-cuban music and salsa. Excellent performances make this one entertaining jazz CD suitable for dancing as well as just listening to with a close friend nearby to enjoy the music!
One of the very, very nice selections on this CD, among many others, is "Empieza Sin Mi" composed by Allan Johnson who is the co-leader of the group. Bill Clark highlights with solo work on flugelhorn with the vocals of Panama born Ivan Rodriguez. Translated, the title is "Start Without Me." "Toys" composed by Herbie Hancock is another fine selection.
If this is your first listen to Grupo Jazz Tumbao, you are in for a treat, for this group is dedicated to combining the musical traditions of Cuba and Puerto Rico with solid jazz improvisation. Special note: Lou Mastroianni is superb with his piano magic in these selections, an excellent jazz pianist. For a change of pace, "Que Bola?" is a wonderful eight selection adventure!
