Colours is a multi cultural group based out of Belgium. Featuring musicians from Italy, Ireland and Belgium, this is their second recording encompassing a mixture of Jazz, Italian Folklore, and World Music.
"Je Suis Toujours La" features some interesting guitar work from Ireland's Frankie Rose. His style borrows from Pat Metheny and Bill Frisell. Delivering some direct chops leading the way with some support from the rest of the band, before Frankie's vocals are added for extra effect. A mid tempo arrangement with a solid beat.
Pat Metheny's influence is obvious throughout "Like There's No Tomorrow" from the drumming through to the vocals, this is as Metheny as it gets.
"My Girl" is a Frankie Rose composition featuring a rock like drum beat and some interesting harmonics from bassist Jacques Pili. Pianist Vincent Bruyninckx is featured throughout. A player with a smooth touch, Vincent offers up some tasty solos. He is someone to keep an eye on.
The Jacques Pili composition, "Luna" is a lovely tune opening with Frankie's effective guitar work, with a smooth introduction from Vincent's keyboards. Frankie also plays beautiful and emotional acoustic guitar on this number. Vincent's keyboards hover throughout Frankie's playing. A tapestry of sound that solidifies the mood.
Colours are defining their unique style through their recordings, as well as gaining exposure through festivals, (The Montreal International Jazz Festival, Cork Guinness Festival). This can only help in introducing them to a wider and I am sure most appreciate audience.
