Still Fresh by Four Freshmen

These guys (not the same four of course) have been playing and singing jazz oriented standards for over 50 years now and their latest album on Pat Boone's The Gold Label shows not only why they are still popular but that they are improving. On Troup's "Blues" and Cole Porter's "Get Out of Town" they show what they can do with material that is truly different from what they have done in the past. The trombone work of 3rd voice Kevin Stout and the bass and 2nd voice of Brian Eichenberger are outstanding. These guys like to be called "jazz musicians who sing" and this album showcases their musicianship like no other they've done. Other highlights are "My Shining Hour" "Moonlight in Vermont" "Straighten Up & Fly Right" and, one for the fans of the 50's - "Walking My Baby Back Home." Their best album since "Five Trombones" 40 years ago.
