This is a special disc. if you have enjoyed mr. samples music at any time,or if you wish to get a feel for his music for the first time,please begin here. This disc shows what we mean when we refer to jazz as "the music". The rapport between all players,(wilfredo reyes,jr. on drums,jay anderson on bass,lalah hathaway on vocals,and kirk whalum on sax) is stunning. I have seen mr. sample play but the vocal tune "when your life was low" brings me almost to tears. It's so beautiful and moving.the entire disc is really worth listening to about a thousand times(smile),and then some! Check out a true jazz superstar here.
