Here's a very nice CD from Minnesota vocalist, Sue Tucker. The session was recently recorded in Minneapolis and is quite a delight.
Sue has chosen to perform ten standards from both contemporary and legendary composers plus here own title song "Meant for Me." As the disc arrived on my desk without press material, I'm unable to give you any details of the singer's background.
The time-honored standards include A Foggy Day, The Very Thought of You, Undecided, You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To and the beautiful Easy Street. More in the contemporary category are Stanley Turrenetine's "Sugar" and the Bill Evans "Waltz for Debbie."
Ms. Tucker is in very good company with some fine accompanists with plenty of super soloists. Sue has a cozy, warm voice and an accomplished jazz style. "Easy Street" is one of my favorite tunes and Sue's treatment is second to none. "Sugar" is another outstanding performance aided by Doug Haining's sax solo. The musicians are first class all around and I was especially impressed by both drummers who are really in tune with the singer's moods. This is a very tight little band. Sue swings along with some of the best vocalists on the scene. I suspect a Nancy Wilson influence and there's certainly nothing wrong with that.
A recommended purchase. The CD may be obtained directly from Sue Tucker by email. (
