Poncho Sanchez is in top form on his new release, SOUL OF THE CONGA. This is a great CD with 14 great songs! Some of the songs in the collection include "Joseito," "Moon Pie," "Haitian Lady," "Days of Wine and Roses," "Stella By Starlight," "Asi Asi," "Rumba De Po-Tiz," among others. Henry Mancini's "Days of Wine and Roses" receives a memorable interpretation, one that will entertain jazz audiences everywhere as does the interpretation of "Stella By Starlight."

"Haitian Lady" is an outstanding performance and has a melody line that will come back to haunt you in a pleasurable way! "Cosas Del Alma" and Nengon" are also very nice gems in this fine collection of Latin music featuring Poncho Sanchez on congas, percussion, and lead vocals!

David Torres is excellent on piano, and it is always a welcome treat to hear his stylish performances! Sal Cracchiolo also gives fine performances on trumpet and flugelhorn along with Francisco Torres on trombone and Scott Martin on saxophones.

A really nice showpiece on this collection is "Oye Lo" composed and performed by both Poncho Sanchez and David Torres. This is an interesting composition in all aspects!

If you are looking for something memorable and unusual, SOUL OF THE CONGA is a must have for any jazz listener's collection. Excellent conga music, the best!!!! SOUL OF THE CONGA is refreshingly original!
