REFLECTIONS is a lovely collection of smooth ballads with a sensitive jazz impact on the senses! Kendra Shank is the singer, and her voice is smooth as satin sheets, filled with emotion, and highly captivating! Shank's jazz vocalizations are original, and gentle.
Frank Kimbrough brings in some nice classic jazz touches with his sensitive piano work, and it is always a pleasure hearing Frank Kimbrough perform on the piano! Kimbrough is backed with the fine work of Dean Johnson on bass and Tony Moreno on drums & percussion.
REFLECTIONS is the type of recording which allows the jazz listeners to become part of the scene, almost as if sitting at a table watching and seeing and hearing it unfold! A really sweet experience!
One of the most beautiful jazz pieces to be recorded on this CD is "The Silence of a Candle," a perfect showcase for Kendra Shank's voice and talents as a guitarist. "Reflections" (this is Duke Ellington's "Reflections in D") is another fine vocal as is Lennon and McCarney's "Let It Be." The Norma Winstone/Jimmy Rowles work, "A Timeless Place" shows how well the musicians and singer focus and come together musically. Two good words to describe this CD is that the entire collection has focus and depth.
Shank does a most remarkable vocal of Abbey Lincoln's "Throw It Away." This is a classic and Shank honors it as such with her rendition. Kimbrough catches the piano essence of the song in his performance. "Throw It Away" is nicely performed!!
For those of you who enjoy the piano stylings of Frank Kimbrough and the jazz vocals of Kendra Shank, REFLECTIONS is a must have for your collection. The musical pairing of these two artists is memorable.
