For those who love the sound of big band, swing, and an orchestra to carry it off with perfection, you will probably fall in love with the sounds of the Netherlands Metropole Orchestra in their excellent release, the CD titled METROPOLE ORKEST. What a great sound, what great solos, what a fine orchestra -- this CD collection is a delight in any language!
The 10 selections include: "Festival De Ritmo," featuring Arno van Nieuwenhuize on drums and Leo Janssen on soprano saxophone; "Greenhouse," featuring Leo Janssen on soprano saxophone; "Never Let Me Go," featuring Bart van Lier on trombone; George Gershwin's "There's A Boat Dat's Leavin' Soon For New York," featuring Bart van Lier on trombone and Leo Janssen on soprano saxophone; "Riverdance," featuring Erno Olah on violin and Janine Abbas on flute; "Deep Song," featuring Leo Janssen on soprano saxophone; a great rendition of "The Moon of Manakoorah" from the film "The Hurricane," featuring Dick Vennik on tenor saxophone and Bart van Lier on trombone; "Esperanca," featuring the very gifted jazz pianist Hans Vroomans, Peter Tiehuis on guitar, and Leo Janssen on tenor saxophone; "Nightclub 1960," featuring Janine Abbas on flute; and "Slash," featuring Lex Bolderdijk on guitar, Marc Scholten on alto saxophone, and Arno van Nieuwenhuize on drums.
This is a well-crafted collection, well-performed, and worthy of airplay time. If you want to listen to something good in the way of orchestra big band sound, METROPOLE ORKEST is a fine choice.
