This CD inspires dancing and thinking just like those instrumentals in the early 70’s. Groups like Donald Byrd’s Blackbyrds (at different phases), The New Birth, and Earth Wind and Fire before they became commercial.
E.M. & I’s "3 On 3" is an outright, uptight groove followed by an equally tight "After Midnight" by Takahiro Watanabe. One strikes the intellect, the other is more fleshly, but they both hit the spots intended. You know where "Swing Machine" got it’s groove.... they jam really hard. That’s a nice piece of nostalgia.
For the most part, it’s great for the parties, coolin’ out or traveling. One need not stop there, but that’s those activities are first to my mind. The groups here pump some decent grooves in true fusion. Some break beats, samples and hearty rhythms make this compilation quite enjoyable.
If you prefer the Hip-Hop mixture, then don’t miss this one. All tracks are alive or "LIVE" and leave nothing cold. The heat is on and what’s more is the depth. These aren’t just empty dance tracks. There’s a whole lot more going on, and that’s good! One can sense the creativity that went into these tracks. Imagination and insight mean a lot and it’s all here. Free your mind!
