The Last Hurrah by Shirley Eikhard

This album gives us a peek into the musical journal of a woman beset by the travails of life and love. Each tune is like a diary entry embellished by the clear texture of Ekihard's vibrant voice.

Shirley Eikhard has all of the essential elements of a first class jazz singer, her timing is flawless, the timbre of her voice is free of extraneous musings, and her message is concise and delivered with eloquence.

A muted Trumpet leads the way to Eikhard's lyrical admonishments to a classic roué in "Mr. Charm". Clever lyrics and clarity of tone showcase this vocalist nicely.

"Destined For Greater Things" also carries a tale of bittersweet happenstance enhanced by the solid comping of Mark Eisenman. Eikhard deftly leads us on a journey of hope and optimism with her sweet opening.

Mike Murley's Tenor swings and Eikhard ably sings on "The Last Hurrah" Her narrative is sung gracefully, and most importantly, on pitch.

Shirley Eikhard expresses musical emotion with the best of them. This album will give the listener a chance to see inside the moods of a of a first class composer and lyricist ..And a fine singer of songs.
