There is an ethereal, haunting quality to the music on this CD as with other Paul Hardcastle arrangements. These songs put the listener in such a relaxed state that a case could be made for therapeutic application. "Lost Summer" has a cohesive bass theme throughout, supporting a gentle, featured sax and flute. I first noticed the track "Bird Island" through a local smooth jazz radio station here in Houston which started me on an initial jazz journey which is still in progress. I have since accumulated many enjoyable jazz CDs from a number of varied artists but Paul Hardcastle stands out as the most innovative composer, arranger and performer especially on Jazzmasters.
