The resulting CD is a tasty mix of swingers and ballads. The twin tenors blister their way through "The Man I Love" and two jam session stalwarts," Out Of Nowhere" and " There Will Never Be Another You." "Tangerine" swings lightly. In Dizzy's bop version of "Whispering", "Groovin' High" you sense the impatience of three-year olds at the starting gate during the traditional unison opener-and then they're off and running! The twosome also has a way with a ballad. Zoot provides a torchy "My Old Flame". Jaws does the same on "Don't Worry About Me." "Ghost of a Chance" is oh-so-pretty from Zoot's opening to Lockjaw's Webster-like choruses and cadenza.
Eddie Davis said of his earlier combo that they were "presenting two styles of playing tenor-a contrast, not a contest." This is equally true of "The Tenor Giants." Enjoy!
