Acha Masimango by Kampi Moto & George Phiri

ACHA MASIMANGO is a fine example of world music and contemporary jazz together. Featuring the exquisite voice of Kampi Moto and the mellow guitar playing of George Phiri, this 12 selection CD is something that will appeal to many jazz listeners. Coming from the South Africa record company, Sheer Sound, this is a collection to be proud of having produced and made available to the world. Kampi Moto was born in Kawanga Province, Congo. George Phiri was born in Malawi and has lived in Zimbabwe and South Africa. The fascinating African rhythms known as Manganje and Mashasha permeate this collection. The two artists have fused the rhythms into a unusual and enjoyable world jazz idiom called Manganjemashasha music.

These songs come from the heart and are performed with much sensitivity and love, a sharing between listener and performers. Moto and Phiri are accompanied by guest musicians.

ACHA MASIMANGO is a feast of good music, wonderful for listening and visualizing jazz motifs! Songs include "Nashanga Sana," "Hidenza," "Acha Masimango," "Hanga Lia Layo," "Dunia," "Ngitale," "Pamodzi," among others.

If South African music interests you as it does me, then please allow me to introduce to you the sounds of Kampi Moto and George Phiri. ACHA MASIMANGO is a true classic world music release, incorporating world music and contemporary jazz into a heady brew! Congratulations to Kampi Moto and George Phiri, keep up the great sounds!
