Priscilla, accompanied by pianist Jim Lester, give the listening audience some fine renditions in the CD collection titled, BACK IN THE DAY. Voice and piano are a perfect duo in this enchanting collection of eight songs.
Songs include "They Can't Take That Away From Me," "You Made Me Love Me," "When I Fall In Love," "My Prayer," "Come Rain or Come Shine," "Some Enchanted Evening," "My Funny Valentine," and "That's All." The performances are excellent.
Jim Lester is a smooth stride pianist, his ready knowledge of stride blues gives this memorable collection of songs a special touch of class. His playing reminded this reviewer of the late stride pianist, Willard David Firestone (1909 - 1979). Jim Lester is one of today's finest jazz pianists performing, and this is an excellent opportunity to hear him play piano. "You Made Me Love You" and "My Prayer" are examples of his piano techniques at their finest.
Priscilla has a poignant, sensitive voice, a bluesy voice that is perfect for these songs, and she will capture your heart with such songs as "Come Rain or Come Shine," "My Funny Valentine," "When I Fall In Love," among others. If you like jazz vocals with a touch of blues, BACK IN THE DAY is something special you should have in your home jazz library. Priscilla has one of the best jazz voices around today, and BACK IN THE DAY is a nice introduction to her sound.
