Symphomaniacs by Ira B Liss And The Big Band Machine

This is the second CD I am aware of from this excellent San Diego Big Band. The original production had a lighter feel, perhaps a shade more commercial in concept. Symphomaniacs very enjoyable and, I would imagine a fair representation of what would be heard at a concert.

The CD features the music of Dan Radlauer, who is on keyboards. The intellectual and adventurous nature of Dan Radlauer's writing produces a very satisfying program of contemporary big band music. Seemingly a departure for Ira. As I am not aware of the band's concert style from day to day I don't know whether this is a permanent change of direction. Having said that, I don't mind. I do know that nothing is to much trouble for this fine group.

Guests on hand are : Eric Marienthal, Wayne Bergeron, Bill Armstron and Carl Verheyen.

Yet another excellent addition to the West Coast's big band firmament.
