In Peter White's early years of backing up Basia and Al Stewart, sometimes he would break out the accordian and bring sounds that will compliment the song. On Danny Federici's self-titled debut release, he shows not only his versatility as a keyboardist, but also as an accordianist as well. In the tracks Mr. Continental and Egg Beater, he puts the sometimes misunderstood instrument to its test as an enhancer instead of just something to inspire a French mood. Federici mixes up the styles well on this CD and shows how to masterfully write, produce and arrange music that brings about something that has been missing from some releases lately. The music is not really smooth jazz except for the opening track Erica and In the Next Five Minutes, but Federici brings about the emotion of just getting away from ordinary music for a while to think about just how good life is. Danny Federici brings about something that has been missing for awhile. It shows why the smooth jazz format on radio was know before as NAC or new adult contemporary. It is real music that can't be categorized, but is real good.
