Born in 1958 at Kansas City, Missouri, Kevin Mahogany attended the Charlie Parker Foundation and he was teaching clarinet by the age of 14, later going on to master piano and baritone saxophone. He graduated with a BFA degree in Music and English Drama in 1981 at Baker University in Kansas and formed a jazz choir while there. He appeared on the 1997 CD release "Eastwood After Hours," and begin to record other releases such as the memorable "Portrait of Kevin Mahogany" in 2000. In 2002, Kevin Mahogany moved to the Telarc label for the release of the CD, "Pride & Joy" which also features the outstanding performances of jazz pianist James Weidman.
Containing 11 selections, "Pride & Joy" is a fine showcase for the singing jazz talents of Kevin Mahogany. "Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me)" features James Weidman on piano accompanying Kevin Mahogany, and it is one remarkable classic song rendition.
Songs in the collection include "Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours," "Pride and Joy," "I Can't Get Next to You," "Neither One of Us (Wants To Be the First to Say Goodbye)," "The Tears of a Clown," "Reach Out I'll Be There," "My World Is Empty Without You," "Never Can Say Goodbye," "She's Out of My Life," "The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game," and "Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me)."
