A perfect blend of contemporary jazz blending elements of free-form and impressionist motifs, Canada's jazz group, Metalwood, is an exciting listening adventure featuring fine musical creations. Guest guitarist John Scofield performs on tracks 1, 3, 8, 10.
Brad Turner, leader of Metalwood, turns in some remarkable solo work with keyboards and trumpet. The 10 selections on this CD titled THE RECLINE are refreshing and original.
Selections include "Strollin'," "Steeplejack," "Bumpus," "Mr. Mike," "New Pants," "The Whisper," among others. Each selection is enjoyable, and songs like "The Hipster" and "Lemming," are a delight to listen to.
The solo work on "The Hipster" is exceptional! This group has good sounds and good imagination, and they are bound for glory with such a collection as performed on THE RECLINE.
Metalwood is a highly creative jazz group coming out of Canada and so far have earned three Juno awards for Electric Jazz Band of the Year. The Juno is a Canadian version of the American Grammy awards.
Metalwood is entertaining, and it is something jazz listeners should check out and discover for themselves how creative a group Metalwood is. Excellent.
