Directions In Music by Hancock Brecker & Hargrove

Whatever the music of Miles Davis and John Coltrane conjure for you: transcendence, darkness, illumination, voodoo, you’re going to hear it and feel it on ‘Naima’ and ‘Transition’, eighteen minutes of mind bending solos (tenor man Brecker and bassist John Patitucci especially) and ensemble exploration. Looking at it that way, (and I don’t suggest that you do) that leavesapproximately sixty minutes of high flying bonus material.

Recorded live at Toronto’s Massey Hall on October 25, 2001, ‘Directions In Music’ as billed, truly celebrates the music of Miles and Trane. At all moments brilliant and liberating, Hancock’s spirit, Hargrove’s unbridled enthusiasm, and Brian Blades’ instinctive drumming create music to soar by. So do yourself a favor and don’t spend too much time reading this. Get a copy, listen and fly.
