Jean Shy & Jbbo (The Other Side Of Blue) by Jean Shy

Jean Shy has assembled some great tunes with very hip lyrics and she has performed them with soulful stylishness bred of lifes travails and good times.

Miss Shy has superlative tonality and splendid phrasing. One recognizes the impact of lifes forces in her delivery. She sings, swings and torches beautifully.

The JBBO Orchestra (Sextet) is the perfect canvas for her to paint her musical portrait. Nice arrangements and capable solos are the hallmark of this fine band.

"Na Na Happy Day" has a nice easy swing and a cool vocal rendition by Shy. Her timing plays a big part in the canorous feel of this delightful song.

"Maze" Great arrangement with inventive lyrics, nice swing to the whole thing.

Jimmy Webb's "After All The Loves" finds Jean Shy lighting the torch, again super lyrics and a wonderful melody makes one reflect on life, love and romance. The message was very clear to this writer.

"Mr. Music Maker"...This tune features a haunting Trumpet solo by Jan Kudyk.

"Party" (On The Weekend) The words say it all, this tune hits home. It is guaranteed to evoke a knowing smile from the listener.

"You Don't Know How To Get It" ..This piece is truly a woman's journal entry. It speaks the truth with unerring clarity. Jean Shy says it all in this tune.

This is a glorious recording. Jean Shy has captured the essence of the many facets of "woman". It is full of truth and cool admonishments, all done in a manner both joyous and thought provoking. This recording has a place in everyone's collection of keepers.
