Latinsville by Victor Feldman

The train pulls into the station and the conductor shouts, "Latinsville! All out for Latinsville!" Off the map for a lot time, Fantasy reinstates the route to the long-out-of-print travelogue platter by pianist/vibist Victor Feldman (1934-1987), who was, alas, better known as a sideman (Cannonball Adderley, Rickie Lee Jones, Steely Dan, Miles Davis) and studio musician than as a leader. In the late 50s, along w/ some of LA's finest, he gathered about him the crème de la crème of that era’s Latin/Afro-Cuban jazz players - Armando Peraza, Willie Bobo and Mongo Santamaria - and flew south of the border (w/ a few Tin Pan Alley/Hollywood ringers) and across the ocean to "Spain," giving Cal Tjader a run for his money at his own game. As a special added attraction, Bill Evans’ noted bassist Scott LaFaro is heard here, and five bonus cuts of straight-up unadulterated bebop are added to this reissue. Spin this and you’ll be up ‘n’ dancing about your domicile, shouting "babaloouu" in no time at all.
