Although writer/producer Reuben Brock has dabbled in hip-hop music, he finds his way back to jazz. Studying the music of jazz legends such as Count Basie, Miles Davis and Oscar Peterson, Brock learned the fundamentals of blues and swing.
"Dig" is the latest offering of this talented jazz trumpeter. The six-track compact disc features Brock's production skills as well as jazz and hip-hop. A native of Washington, Pittsburgh, Brock adds a little old school and funk-rock to the mix, making a pleasing sound.
Brock plays the trumpet on four of the tracks but adds keyboard background and produces rhythmic loops overlaid by the improvisation of other instrumentalists. This is definitely something to
"Dig", and hopefully more jazz fans will be exposed to this young, talented musician in the future.
