Fans of movie soundtracks will instantly recognize the name Mark Isham from his work on films like "A River Runs Through It," "Little Man Tate," "Mrs. Parker & The Viscious Circle" and "Gotti," and will find his original score for "The Cooler" every bit as impressive an accomplishment, but this is a recording that will be as eagerly devoured by jazz fans as well. Not only does Isham successfully introduce jazz elements into his compositions, no mean feat, but mixes them with selections from the Great America Songbook performed by vocalists ranging from actor Paul Sorvino (and he's good! Who knew?) to America's current jazz sweetheart, Diana Krall.
Krall's contribution and Tierney Sutton's "My Funny Valentine" are bound to get regular replays in any jazz buff's rotation, but this disc is full of music you'll want to hear over and over again.
