Traveler by Steve Hass

A friend of mine recommended this debut CD. Though I receive CDs all the time to listen to her recommendation was intriguing; "I really don't know anything about Jazz but I do know good music and this is really quite good" I could not agree with her more.

Traveler is full of good music.

Produced and arranged by a drummer, mind you I only heard two drum solos, it is quite safe to state that this is not a drummer's CD, this is a strong debut in any genre. I was invited to listen and then captivated.

Though all tracks are brilliant and stand on their own, Skylark was a highlight. The arrangement is confident, intelligent, and pure. The big full drums added right after the ever slight moment of silence are the soul of this piece and remind me of a bandmate who played like no other.

To any one out there who loves jazz this is a CD you need to have in your collection, that requires listening and that will remain in your collection, like it will remain in mine, to be played over and over again. To anyone out there, who, like my friend just likes good music, this is a CD that will capture you from the first note, lead you on a melodious journey and land you complacently.

Thank you, my friend for the recommendation.

Thank you, Steve Hass for the musical journey. It is one of the best trips I have been on this year.
