After listening to Nicknack, album titled "Improving Silence" I have decided that it’s a keeper.
This CD has a soothing sound that is a mixture of smooth jazz, calm trumpets, simply pure music. There are 12 tracks on this CD and all of them are masterfully arranged and produced by Nicknack.
The very first track entitled "Improving Silence" enveloped my soul like a love letter in bottle, tossed out to sea with a particular lover in mind. The second track "Mustard seed" reminded me of Miles Dave on a cool day, the horn was just jazzy like that. Another one of my favorites on this album was track ten "Salt of the Earth" like a stormy day, bleak but beautiful. The last track entitled "Root to the Fruit" was a beautiful contemporary piece that was smooth, sensual, and lovely. All of songs remind you of a time, a place, a person, or a moment and isn’t that what good jazz is all about.
Nicknack wanted this CD to remind you of silence, something soothing to the soul and I think in the CD he has accomplished what he set out to do. This CD was definitely a worthwhile project, and should be included in your jazz collection.
