It's like reading a treatise on the historical impact great players have on the jazz idiom. Jazz pianist-arranger, Joan Stiles has put together a formidable 10-piece group for her debut 1'st volley as a leader.
Clark Terry, Frank Wess, Warren Vache,et al offer their combined talents, only enhancing this finedisc. Arrangers are one of my favorite genres, & Joan rallies tothe challenge, re-inventing our beloved American Songbookwith her orchestrations. I must pay particular kudos too, to Joan'sfine pianistic artistry as I relegate the listener to her exceptionallycrisp articulation, artful technique, & her clear grasp on modern harmony. All in all, she's quite an American treasure.
