Sondheim is definitely engraved into our lexicon of AmericanMusical Comedy. His new body of work 'Assassins' is an expansive effort, and he continues to gainfully reinvent the idiomof Musical Comedy for our instruction. One hears little snippets of 'Mame-esque' motifs in the music only enhancing its polyphonic strength.........But, Sondheim can shift the musical mood from charming to cantankerous, visa-vie his Broadway Cast Recording contained herein. The Cast performs Stephen's sound track smoothly, seamlessly, colorfully & most of all......With an excitable dash. Sondheim is unique in his ability to offer through his great music the 'full view' of entertainment to us, his global audience.
