Dealing within the lexicon of the American Songbook, is the conservative way to create a viable CD project. Jazz singer Karen Manion has accomplished such..........Her repertoire including her mix of mainstream jazz to pop. However, my producer side dictates that I address the CD mix and vocal placement aspect of the project. Subjectively, I feel Karen's voice is too far back into the mix, & the plate reverb used (if any), should have decayed well beyond the back side of her voice giving it (by default) a much richer timbre. That said, I'm certainly not putting down any of the combined talent contained therein. The group 'kicks,' & Karen delivers her vocalise with a panache that is subtle, creative, defined, rich, imaginative & crafty............All blended nicely within a luxuriant palette of musical taste. Great stuff guys!!
