Dreams Untold by Colin Stranahan

Perhaps Denver, Colorado is not a hotbed of jazz but things may soon change. Dreams Untold is a debut recording by a great little band with roots planted firmly within the land of bebop.

It’s a young and polished outfit led by seventeen year old drummer Colin Stranahan. An admirer of Roy Haynes and Elvin Jones, Stranahan also keeps an eye on what other young percussion players are doing. In spite of his youth, the leader is already an outstanding jazz performer.

The other members of the quintet are not old men either. Warren and Bailey are age 19. When the quintet clicks into high gear, it sounds like a veteran crew. Consider too, that the compositions are all by Colin Stranahan and Jeff Jenkins with the exception of Coltrane’s 26-2 and the group has a lot to be proud of. Dreams Untold has everything going for it. It’s a debut CD that really deserves your attention.
