Oliver Steel formed his quartet in 1998 and this is his third recording with his Caribbean counterparts. The new CD by Oliver Lake Steel Quartet titled "Dat Love" is a mixture of Caribbean island flare, with a Rhythm and Blues element to make a very authentic jazz CD. The album opens with a cut entitled "Stolen Moments" and continues to invite you into the entire album with tunes such as Dat Love, Song for Jay, and a remake of Mary J. Bliges-Stevie Wonder hit "Time".
All of the cuts from the album are up-tempo, smooth, and melodic. I like the very authentic island flavor that the album sets the tone for, it reminds me of good wine, good friends and great island cuisine.
As his Bio so eloquently puts it, Oliver Lake is one of the most versatile, creative musicians on the international scene, a true renaissance man. I agree. Oliver Lake Steel Quartet, "Dat Love", a must have for a true jazz collector.
