Guitarist Jon Durant blends elements of jazz, rock, new age and minimalism in his fifth project,
"Things Behind the Sun," creating a wholly unique space.
With the help of band mates Tony Levin and Vinny Sabatino, Durant creates his most guitaritic recording to date. The last track,
"They Left Behind the Water," Durant's signature cloud textures are complimented by another band mate, Joe Cunningham, who plays on a Bulgarian Frula (recorder-like instrument).Durant describes his album as a project that "materialized in a very short period of time."
On
"Things Behind the Sun," the customary cloud guitars have been replaced with layered voicings across intricate chord progressions that bring to mind such diverse influences as Eberhard Weber and Allan Holdsworth.
Durant clearly understands the importance of producing quality music, as he is founder and president of Alchemy Records.
