For sure, this might be my easiest CD review to date, as this is a CD treatise of Thad Jones original music. Thad was my inspiration for the creation of my big band. Michael Patterson has taken on the labor of love to adapt & arrange some of Thad's music, with the able help of Thad's brother Hank Jones-piano, Fran Wess-reeds, Richard Davis-bass, James Moody-sax, Benny Golson-sax, Sir Roland Hanna-piano, et al. All these folks, (some of which are Thad-grads), skillfully manipulate Patterson's charts with creative syncopation, controlled dynamics, crisp tempos, & a contemporary intricate tapestry of modern jazz voicings.........All characteristics of Thad Jones's enormous musical legacy. All in all, this is a study in consummate taste, melodicism, & top of the shelf musicianship.
