The Colours of Latin Jazz is a series of discs on the Concord label that sample the different variations of latin jazz. On ‘Soul Cookin’ there is a emphasis on the groove. There is no shortage of energy on all of the fourteen uptempo tracks. Selections immediately bring to mind the fun vibe that is so closely associated with latin jazz. The disc features some of latin jazz’ s most flavourful and well known artists, a good representation of the luminaries: Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, Poncho Sanchez. This set is an excellent appetizer for anyone looking to get into the soulful and tasty cooking that is latin jazz.
