Parallel Mind is a Chicago based progressive rock trio whose music fits nicely into the niche of "Third Stream" jazz.
All compositions are by band members Nadkarni, Babiak, Kopecky and guest Jason Pachona. In addition to the mini-suite
Colossus ADEA, there are several other equally serious pieces. While this writer is not a huge fan of progressive rock, I found this album captivating and enjoyable. At times, the trio’s music took my mind back to the similar attempts by Raymond Scott in the late 1930s. Like Scott’s forward-thinking compositions,
Beginning’s End with its intense rhythms, could well wind up on the soundtrack of animated films.
The music of
Parallel Mind is not to be taken lightly. Chicago area fans will have a chance to see the band and guest musicians when they celebrate the release of
Colossus ADEA in July. Details appear on the band’s website along with sound samples.
