Blues, R&B, rock and country - this Canadian guitarist has seemingly done it all. Currently serving on the faculty at the Mount Royal College Diploma Jazz Program, Ralf Buschmeyer is a graduate of Mohawk College, where he studied with Lorne Lofsky. He has toured Canada several times with full-time traveling country bands and is co-leader of two contemporary jazz bands with five CDs released to date. Ralf is also a Godin Guitars Artist. His well-rounded musical background gives him a definite edge in his playing where his numerous influences really shine through in his phrasing and style.
Bassist John Hyde is the current Artistic Director of the Jazz Studies Program at Mount Royal College. He has numerous recording, arranging, and producing credits with various artists.
Andy Ericson has performed in Calgary for over 20 years. Besides being a notable drummer he also owns and operates his own recording studio.
This recording has an easy flow to it. The music is soft and melodic for the most part, with surges of energy interspersed throughout, such as in the 4th track, appropriately titled, "Section 8." The drums and guitar bounce around, producing a "manic" musical atmosphere.
Other tracks of note are #5, "A Place for You and I," soft and gently lulling, and track 7, "Relenting," with a pleasant, swinging groove and some nice bass highlights.
The trio play tight and clean together giving this project a sophisticated and smooth sound. A very enjoyable disc.
