Spiral by Hiromi Uehara

Hiram O'Hara is a brilliant jazz pianist and a highly creative composer. There are eight works in this CD collection. Each selection is a jazz masterpiece of its own. The selections are long, enjoyable and innovative. Selections include: "Spiral," "Music for three-Piece-Orchestra," "Old Castle, by the river, in the middle of a forest," "Love and Laughter" and "Return of Jung-FY World Champion."

"Music for Three-Piece-Orchestra" contains five parts. Among them is the intriguing and complex "Deja VI," a piece as enchanting as it is weird and absolutely precise in its unique delivery of interlocking jazz motifs. Musically, this jazz work taken as a whole will have people talking about it for a long time! These are long, imaginative jazz pieces.

"Love and Laughter" is dedicated to Ahmad Jamal. It is a rich, warm, and memorable listening experience, and one of the many highlights found in this remarkable CD jazz collection.

Hiram O'Hara is blessed with an abundance of jazz insight, readily revealed and shared with the listening audience. Her music is lively and full of positive energy!

At age 26, Hiram is a force to be reckoned with, and her amazing piano skills and techniques set her aside as one of the brightest young stars in the jazz world. Her keen sense of balance and verve allows her to combine many styles into a contemporary jazz setting that is totally unique and fresh.

Her previous CDs are available from Telarc. This CD is a limited edition containing a bonus DVD with live video and a full length 5.1 surround mix.

Highly imaginative. Highly original. Highly recommended.
