When asked why he chose "Just Feelin’ It" as the title, Manson simply stated, "After writing the music, I pictured myself laying around and just feelin’ it!" Looks like he’s feelin’ it on the cover of his new CD as well!
The first track, "Coming Right At Ya" is a perfect prelude of what’s still to come. Jeff Lorber, Kirk Whalum and Lenny Castro lend their sounds to this one. As a matter of fact, they can be heard on various tracks throughout this CD as well as Rick Braun, Brian Culbertson, George Duke, Norman Brown, Paul Jackson, Jr., Nelson Rangell, Kevin Whalum and much more. Not too shabby!
On "Just Feelin" It," sit back and, well, just feel it! This is for sure a feel good tune. "Way Back When" takes you on a journey with its excellent rhythmic horns and keyboards throughout. "Another Chance" has spirituality to it that will lift you up and just plain make you feel good.
On "In Flight," Manson soars throughout with his electrifying bass playing. All other instruments and programming on this track are done by Dave Kochanski. Excellent! And then it’s on down to The "Bassment," where Manson takes you and just lets loose. He shows us what he’s got and more. This is pure fun, funky and sure to get those toes tapping!
Also on this CD, Manson covers "There’s Nothing Better Than Love" by Luther Vandross, "Lovely Day" by Bill Withers, and "Tis So Sweet." All are excellent and very well done by Manson. Then it’s back to "The Bassment" for a reprise. Great stuff!
In a recent phone interview, Manson said he wanted to be able to reach people at a certain level, emotionally or spiritually with this and his first CD, The Bottom Line. He has indeed succeeded brilliantly. Michael Manson is surly on his way to a very successful solo career and we can look forward to hearing lots more from him.
As to what he hopes to accomplish with this CD, Manson said he wants to firmly establish a solo career, as well as to show more of his technical abilities. This CD was produced by Manson and co-produced by Brian Culbertson. Manson wrote or co-wrote all but three of the tracks.
