Solo piano albums are among my favorites. The opportunity to listen to one person be who they are with one instrument and no others is truly awe-inspiring. This is the case with Possible Dreams featuring solo pianist Elise Lebec. Formerly known as Tabitha Lebec, Elise is a self-taught pianist who has put together an inspiring round of treatises on dreams and hope and a bright future for all of us to enjoy.
The pieces on this CD are themed, though not necessarily grouped as such. According to the press statement sent out with the album, Elise has put together songs about "hopes and dreams ("Possible Dreams" and "The First Time"), sleep dreaming ("Before Awakening" and Imaginary Kisses"), nature ("Behold," "A Drive Through Sunflowers" and "Cloudless Sky"), love ("Meeting You Again" and "Colors of the Heart") and nighttime imagery ("Dark Before Light" and Moonlight Dance")."
The title cut, "Possible Dreams" rings of future hope and constant striving for better and greater things. "Dark Before Light" struck me as one of the more enrapturing titles on the album, really drawing me into a sense of peace that can only come with the night. Her piano playing on this and all of the other cuts is breathtakingly simple yet the keys are played lovingly and with great care.
Possible Dreams is a fantastic album for contemplation, studying, driving (during the day is highly recommended) or just sitting by the fire on a cold winter’s night and enjoying a beverage of choice and this fine work of solo piano.
