The disc aims to show the different moods and styles of the performer, who has been part of the Twin Cities music scene for many years and performs with the jazz ensemble Moore By Four.
One of the most daring and successful numbers on Live! At Hot Summer Jazz is Commodore’s performance of Carole King’s "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow." Accompanied only by bass, she begins the number softly, gently asking for the answer to the song’s title, but the seven-minute number slowly builds and gains momentum for an emotional conclusion.
Give Commodore credit for trying to make each song her own. She offers an updated, modern, yet still steamy version of "Fever" and a lovely rendition of "Unchained Melody." Not all the songs are slow ones. The vocalist is intent on showing her versatility and includes the swinging standard "I Get A Kick Out Of You" along with a breezy "Who Can I Turn To." She also performs "My Funny Valentine."
Commodore has a strong, clear voice and brings an R&B touch to more than one number here. Minnesota fans who have been waiting for a Commodore release have something to take home with them.
