New York, N.Y. - The Arkadia Music Center announces Flute Day and Guitar Day III, the two latest installments in an exciting series of instructional musical events for the musician who wants to step up to the next level. Flute Day, offers a 2-hour intensive flute master class with a prominent recording artist, and a 90min concert where students will be invited to participate. Guitar Days feature two 1 ½-hour Master Classes by top-flight professionals, followed by a special musical concert performance. "We are delighted and honored to have such distinguished musicians working with us," said Bob Karcy, Founder and CEO of Arkadia Records, and President of the Arkadia Music Center. FLUTE DAY On Saturday, June 8th from 2:30pm 6:30pm, Flute Day features Arkadia Jazz recording artist T.K. Blue. Enrollment is $75, $60 for members. GUITAR DAYS On Saturday, June 15th from 2pm to 7pm, Guitar Days feature Howard Alden and Jack Wilkins. Enrollment fee for the day is $100, $90 for members. THE ARTISTS
Each one of these handpicked artists offers a wealth of knowledge and experience. Flute and saxophone master T.K. Blue has been the longtime musical director of the Randy Weston Group and has worked with Abdullah Ibrahim, Spirit of Life Ensemble, and others. Guitarist Jack Wilkins built his reputation on collaborations with Sarah Vaughan, Chet Baker, Tony Bennet, Mel Torme, Buddy Rich, and many others. His debut album Windows (1973) has been critically acclaimed as a dazzling seminal guitar trio work. Howard Alden "may be the best of his generation," writes Owen Cordle of JazzTimes. His dazzling work on the soundtrack to Woody Allen’s "Sweet and Lowdown", was a highpoint for moviegoers in 2000. Additionally, he has worked with Woody Herman, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Carter and the legendary George Van Epps. The Arkadia Music Center is a gathering place offering an exciting blend of musical events, with a focus on jazz. An extension of Arkadia Records, a multi-Grammy nominated label, the Arkadia Music Center will serve the community with unique learning, life enrichment and entertainment events for all ages, from beginners to advance. Programs will include workshops, lecture/demonstrations, career track seminars, master classes and music performances. Events will be presented at Arkadia’s newly remodeled 6th floor loft, centrally located in Manhattan at 23rd Street, between Madison and Park Avenue.
