February 4, 2002
Relix Magazine has featured Avon, CT jazz group Mystery Feet as one of eight new artists nationwide worthy of wider recognition. Mick Skidmore writes in his "On The Verge: Artists You Should Know About" article that Mystery Feet is a "highly proficient extremely accomplished quartet. These guys are stunning players."
Joining Mystery Feet on their album as a guest artist is jazz guitar great Larry Coryell, who also wrote the album liner notes. "We’re extremely honored to have had Larry play with us on our first album. His presence was a great inspiration," says bassist and leader Craig Garfinkel. Coryell plays on guitarist Frank Varela’s composition "Angelina Park", and the band opens the album with a cover of Coryell’s composition "The Dragon Gate".
Another Mystery Feet composition, "Mariana", spent five days ranked #1 on the MP3.com Jazz charts, and more than seventeen days ranked #1 on the Jazz Fusion sub-genre chart. The song has received more than 20,000 plays in the month of January, and shares space on the charts with jazz artists of national status such as Diana Krall , George Benson and John Scofield.
"Walk the Walk" was released on independent label U Dig Records in October of 2001, and is available through the band’s website at http://www.mysteryfeet.com, or through CD Baby at http://www.cdbaby.com/mysteryfeet. Besides Garfinkel on bass, Mystery Feet is Frank Varela on guitar, Jonathan Chatfield on keyboards and Scott Allshouse (of Max Creek fame) on drums. Mystery Feet can be contacted via email at
