2004 Hartford International Jazz Festival

The Hartford International Jazz Festival returns to downtown Hartford, CT for its third year on October 8, 9 and 10. Hartford’s only international jazz festival will once again set up Main Stages and Encore Stages in the city’s central business district and encourage music fans to come and "Discover a new world in Downtown Hartford on Columbus Day weekend."

Seven Main Stages set up at locations such as Asylum Hill Congregational Church, the Bushnell, the Wadsworth Atheneum, Riverfront Plaza and City Steam Brewery will present the main attractions while up to twenty Encore Stages located in some of downtown Hartford’s best restaurants will feature music by the area's best musicians.

"This festival has something for everyone", says Sarah Posner the festival’s Executive Director. "Our mission is to bring the world to downtown Hartford for three days of great music and great food. Right now we’re working to build our local and national audience, but, our ultimate goal is to reach out to the international audience and get them to make Hartford a destination."

Thanks to financial assistance from St. Paul Travelers Foundation, Foxwood’s Resorts Casino, Fidelity Investments, Colt Gateway and the New Alliance Bank Foundation, the 2004 HIJF has been able to expand its Main Stage events. A grant from the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism has made it possible to include a free Sunday concert at Riverfront Plaza.

Main Stage artists appearing at this year’s festival include, Kendrick Oliver’s 19-piece New Life Jazz Orchestra, Monica Lynk, Cyrus Chestnut, Kevin Mahogany, David "Fathead" Newman, local favorites, Mary DiPaolo-Davis Trio, the Harlem Blues & Jazz Band, Violinist Daniel Bernard Roumain, new jazz trio The Bad Plus, Serbian guitarist Rale Micic, East-Indian saxophonist Rudresh Mahanthappa and Papo Cruz’s Orquesta Tributo.

The Hartford International Jazz Festival, Ltd. is a non-profit, 501 (c) (3) organization whose primary mission is to bring the world to Hartford.
