1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
at "The REX Hotel & Jazz Bar"
Featuring a Brand-new Batch of Thirty-Two of Toronto’s Finest Jazz Musicians-and some SPECIAL SURPRISE GUESTS!!

TORONTO September 30, 2004 On Saturday, October 30th, the third annual "JAZZ FOR HERBIE" musical benefit for The Herbie Fund will take place from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the original "Jazz For Herbie" home the fabulous and funky "Rex Hotel & Jazz Bar". The event will be a great time for all ages-perfect for the whole family! "Jazz For Herbie" is being presented by Canada’s only 24-hour jazz station, JAZZ FM 91 and The Herbie Fund. On-air hosts from JAZZ FM 91 will be handling the hosting duties, and there will be a number of "Giveaways" sponsored by Eagle Rock Entertainment, Universal Music and JAZZ FM 91. Producing this glorious event once again, are jazz pianist, composer and arranger, Ron Davis and jazz vocalist and composer, Leah State. "Ron and I are really thrilled to be back at "The Rex" for this year’s third edition of ‘Jazz For Herbie’", says Co-Producer, Leah State. "Not only is ‘The Rex’ the original home for this benefit, but now that children are allowed in, it’s the ideal venue."

The "Jazz For Herbie" event raises contributions to "The Herbie Fund", which has been in existence since 1979, and is dedicated to making life-saving surgery available to children from every corner of the world. Thus far, over 400 children from many different locations in the Global Villlage have received the aforementioned life-saving surgery at Toronto’s Sick Children’s Hospital-one of the premiere pediatric facilities in the world. In the three years that Ron and Leah have produced the show, they have put out the call to the jazz community.

According to Co-Producer, Ron Davis, "We’re especially grateful for the support being offered by Verve Records/Universal Music Canada, through its Label Manager, Scott Morin. As if that support wasn’t enough, Scott will be making his playing debut at ‘The Rex’ on alto sax! Leah and I continue to be overwhelmed by the jazz community’s generous response to our invitations to come play. We have yet another wonderful, strong line-up of players, and look forward to another successful event, musically and financially."

It is the policy of the event that every "Jazz For Herbie" fundraising concert features a new group of talented and generous artists-this way, the event stays fresh, entertaining, and gives many artists a chance to give of themselves to this incredibly worthy cause. This year’s "Jazz For Herbie" benefit will feature performances from Kieran Adams, Diane Alcorn, Ken Aldcroft, Archie Alleyne & "Kollage", Nick Ali, Norm Amadio, Donna Barbour, Melissa Boyce, Bonnie Brett, Roger Clown, Rob Clutton, Jason Crawford, Ron Davis, Brandy Disterheft, George Evans, Nick Fraser, David French, Tania Gill, Ron Johnston, Sly Juhas, Maureen Kennedy, Emilio Reyes Leblanc, Amanda Martinez, Paul Mathew, Sophie Milman, Scott Morin, Daniela Nardi, Paul Neufeld, Phil Nimmons, Paul Novotny, Jake Oelrichs, Michael Occhipinti, Mike Overton, Tim Posgate, Jamie Reynolds, Swing Rosie, Reg Schwager, Joe Sealy, Elizabeth Sheppard, Leah State, Nicole Stoffman, Dione Taylor, Tricycle, Doug Watson and Richard Whiteman as well as some very special guests!

Also Scott Morin (Label Manager of Jazz - Universal Music Canada) will be making his saxophone debut!! "Jazz For Herbie" is committed to including the entire jazz community, and most especially the new, young, emerging artists.

This year, sultry vocalist Dione Taylor, jazz bassist Brandy Disterheft, vocalist Sophie Milman and Elizabeth Sheppard will make their "Jazz For Herbie" appearances, as well as the un-stopable "Jazz Walruses", who are a youth performance group from the highly regarded Humber College Community Music School. "The Jazz Walruses" will be kicking off the "JFH" festivities at noon, and will perform until 1:00 PM. Members of the group include Edwin Sheard (age 15) on soprano sax, Chris Yiu (age 16) on piano, Lucien Gray (age 14) on bass and Thadeus Garwood (age 14) on drums.
