New Music from New York

Guitarist Rez Abbasi introduces his new trio, "Prana", at the Cornelia Street Cafe, NYC. This group is sure to create a buzz with new compositions of dazzling proportions. These pieces are influenced by Abbasi's origins, that of South Asia, namely India and Pakistan. His incorporation of a hybrid instrument called the sitar-guitar along with the use of drums/tablas, places his compositions in an arena not often heard in jazz today. These textures combined with the colorful sound of an organ, gives the listener a truly unique experience, something Abbasi always strives for. As Jazziz magazine recently wrote, "Abbasi writes stunning compositions and plays dazzling solos. Remarkable."

The trio consists of Rez Abbasi on guitar, sitar-guitar; Gary Versace on organ and Dan Weiss on drums and tablas. For more information about Rez Abbasi and samples of his previous work, please visit his website.
