Solo Percussion in Oshkosh, Wisconsin

Percussionist Michael Bettine is committed to exploring the energy of percussion. Working with both composed and improvised music, his work strikes a balance between the melodic aspects of such European percussionists as Pierre Favre and Andrea Centazzo, and the anarchy of Lê Quan Ninh and Paul Lytton. Bettine specializes in metal percussion, utilizing a set up of over 80 cymbals, gongs, singing bowls, bell plates, bells, etc.. About Michael, DRUM! Magazine says: "Don't expect to hear burning riffage...These sounds run the gamut, from smoky gongs to grating screeches that are the musical equivalent of fingernails scraping a chalkboard...Bettine has a unique vision that sets him apart from the hordes."

Michael has created a body of work that moves beyond labels and boundaries. Exceptionally creative and versatile, Bettine continues to develop a passionate new musical language based on Sacred Geometry, Chaos Theory, spirituality, sound healing, and the effects of vibrations on the human body and energy fields. Michael's music is a bold attempt to combine the wealth of the past with the present and future.

Michael's current endeavor is LABYRINTH. This solo performance/CD is an extended work for over 30 gongs. "The gong is the perfect instrument of transformation," he explains. "It covers the entire frequency range and effects the body physically, opening up the Chakras and energy centers."
