The National Jazz Awards, presented by Galaxie, CBC’s Continuous Music Network and generously supported by FACTOR, has confirmed that the hosts of this year’s National Jazz Awards are Tim Tamashiro, an artist in his own right and weekend host of CBC Radio’s Tonic and Karen Gordon, a modern day renaissance woman in demand as writer, radio host, film reviewer and media trainer but probably first and foremost a music lover.
Executive Director, Bill King has already assembled a strong line up of performers that includes The Real Divas, 2009 Juno nominee Chris Donnelly, the Mario Allard Quintet, Christine & Ingrid Jensen. Mario Allard was the recipient of the 2008 Galaxie Rising Star Award of the CBC, Best Composition, during last year’s Festival International de Jazz de Montreal . Also confirmed are two incredibly talented sisters, Christine and Ingrid Jensen
The first National Jazz Orchestra, comprised of the top students from York University, Humber College and University of Toronto, approximately 16 members-strong will play music from some of Canada’s greatest jazz composers and the chosen musicians are very excited at this opportunity to be conducted by Mike Murley, Denny Christianson, Christine Jensen and Vic Vogel.
An all-star band, conducted by Darcy Hepner will perform a specially commissioned piece by up and coming New York composer,Darcy James Argue.
