"Art of Trio" consists of guitarist Ryo Kawasaki, drummer/percussionist Brian Melvin and Toivo Unt on double bass.
Ryo Kawasaki may be known through his association with the late drummer Elvin Jones, the late arranger/composer Gil Evans as well as drummer Chico Hamilton, saxophonist Dave Liebman, pianist Joanne Brackeen, producer Teo Macero and trumpeter Ted Curson to name a few, he was also active as owner and producer of NY based jazz label ‘Satellites Records in 90’s to early 2000. Ryo is also known as guitar synthesizer innovator in the late 70’s as well as known as an author of his series of international smash musical software hits he had written for Commodore 64 in mid-80’s. Ryo has lived in New York City for over 30 years and recently moved to Tallinn Estonia.

Brian Melvin, originally from San Francisco, California, may be best known as a drummer for the late bass phenomenon Jaco Pastorius with five historical recordings during their associate. Brian also worked extensively with the late Joe Henderson, Mike Stern, John Scofield and Michael Brecker , and his recent very successful project Beatlejazz with pianist David Kikoski has been keeping Brian busy touring worldwide. He’s also a skillful player on Tablas and various hand drums along with electric percussion. Brian is also a very active educator in music and rhythm instruments. Brian resides in Tallinn Estonia for the recent years.

Toivo Unt could be best described as God Father of modern Estonian Jazz phenomena. Many of modern Estonian jazz activities and successes are mainly due to his ongoing passion and magical personality to bring countless talented jazz musicians from all over the world to his native land Estonia as well as to other Baltic States and Finland. He’s also a virtuoso bassist both in Jazz and Classical music, and he works as regular bassist at Estonian National Opera House. He is also a CEO and chief producer for the Estonian annual Jazz festival Nõmme Jazz for the last six years.

Naturally gathering these three profiles and their achievements as true jazz professionals for over three decades, there’s no question about it that this would definitely work. They all speak the same language of jazz as well as understand the feelings of jazz, rhythms, harmonies, sounds, colors and melodies through so many years of experiences and incorporating their own inventions every moment during their performances. "Art of Trio" was debuted in Pori Jazz 2004 under the name of "Ryo Kawasaki Trio" and ever since, the group has been shaping up its direction through the dialogues between members and performances.
"Art of Trio" is now ready to seek opportunities to share their sounds and visions with variety of international audiences.
