Canadian Jazz Guitarist Shan Arsenault is pleased to announce the release of his latest work The Jazz Beat Sessions. This CD is a compilation of two sessions that were recorded for the popular CBC radio two program "Jazz Beat." The material was originally nationally aired and has since been repeatedly broadcast nationally and locally. The Jazz Beat Sessions features seven of Shan Arsenault's original compositions as well as some of Halifax's finest musicans; Shan Arsenault - guitar, Jamie Gatti - bass, Tom Roach - drums and Dave Burton - drums.
Shan's playing has been described as "a mature distillation of one of the finest jazz talents to come out of the local scene...Arsenault's superbly timed breaks and fills are unforced and natural, even when, as sometimes happens, his melodic imagination floods the chord changes with more notes than you ever thought would fit in between the barlines. It is exciting, to be sure, but it also delights the senses with its poetic quality." - Stephen Pedersen, Halifax Chronicle Herald
Shan has performed with countless musicians as a sideman over his long career, earning the reputation of first call player. More recently he is committed to performing, writing and recording his own material to promote his career as a solo player and band leader. Over the past three years since Shan has begun to pass on his knowledge he has become a much in demand guitar instructor in the Halifax area. Other current projects include playing with the Paul Cram Sextet. You can hear Shan play as a leader with various guitar trio and quartet formats as well as with the Paul Cram Sextet at some of Canada's many jazz festivals this summer.
