Charlie Haden Quartet West
River Run Centre, Guelph Ontario presents Charlie Haden Quartet West: Thursday August 31, 2006 Show time: 8:00 P.M http://riverrun.ca/
Consider this concert the perfect precursor to the Guelph Jazz Festival, starting September 6, 2006. Charlie Haden revolutionized bass playing in the 5o’s and 60’s with his collaborations with Ornette Coleman. Fortunately for us he continues to produce wonderful music, he makes bold statements in his composing and arranging. As a leader he has produced some of the best albums of all time. The awards he has received are numerous;

LAND OF THE SUN
2001 GRAMMY Best Latin Jazz Performance
1997 GRAMMY Best Jazz Instrumental Performance

Over the course of his illustrious career, he has contributed his virtuosity to numerous recordings with innovative musicians, including John Coltrane, Keith Jarrett, Pat Metheny, Joe Henderson, Chet Baker, Stan Getz, Carla Bley, Hampton Hawes, Herbie Hancock, Michael Brecker & David Sanborn.
Haden has always defied the boundaries of category, and in 1986 he brought together fellow musicians, saxophonist Ernie Watts, pianist Alan Broadbent, and Billy Higgins on drums, to form his much lauded and multiple Grammy-nominated band, CHARLIE HADEN QUARTET WEST. Now drummer Rodney Green performs with QUARTET WEST on a regular basis.
Haden's vision for Quartet West recognizes the beginning of modernism in jazz. Along with classic forties pop ballads and up-lifting originals by Haden or Alan Broadbent, the group's pianist, the Quartet’s elegant "noir" infused, bop-oriented style and masterful instrumentalists perfectly evoke a sense of place like no other band.
Charlie Haden Quartet West celebrates 20 years together in 2006.
Venture out to the River Run Centre to join in the celebration of a master bassist. Happy Anniversary Charlie Haden!
