Jazz composer and pianist Randy Klein (of New York, NY) won first Prize in the Jazz category in the 2005 USA Songwriting Competition, he also won Overall Second Prize. He is also the first Jazz winner to be placed in the top three of the songwriting competition in the entire 10 year history. Randy has won four Southern Regional Emmy Awards in 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2002. He was awarded gold records for songs recorded by Millie Jackson (BMG). He has written for various artists such as IRT (RCA label), Candy Staton, Sarah Dash (Formerly of LaBelle), the rap group Black Sheep, Memphis Bleak and Sesame Street. Randy is also a visiting artist of the prestigious Berklee College of Music and has been endorsed by the famed Steinway pianos.
Entries are currently being accepted for the 11th Annual USA Songwriting Competition. Winning songs will receive airplay on a nationally syndicated radio program "Acoustic Café" as well as XM Satellite Radio. This is the first Songwriting Competition that gives airplay to the winning songs, giving deserving bands, songwriters the recognition and exposure they deserve. Entrants stand to win a grand prize of over US$50,000 in cash and music gear from Peavey, making this the largest prize package for any annual songwriting competition. Many USA Songwriting Competition winners in the past have received recording and publishing contracts, as well as having their songs placed on film and television. Judges include A&R managers from record labels such as Warner, Universal, BMG/SONY Music.
